1. Tell our readers about your history as a stylist
JJ: I have spent the last 31 years as a hairdresser. After completing both grad school and beauty college, I worked at a boutique for 10 months. While there I met a coworker Craig Campfield, who was a make up artist at the time. He told me about a friend of his - Tom Hayden, who was in the process of opening a salon [Tom is an internationally world-renowned stylist]. I worked for him for 4 years. This is where I learned business management, how to operate a salon efficiently, the retail side of the business, how to run a reception desk, and how to assist other stylists (co-workers).
